With digital revenues expected to increase from 16% to 37% in the next five years, and digital processes in the public sector set to grow from 42% to 77%, the IT function is becoming increasingly business-critical. Consequently, the responsibility upon a CIO’s shoulders is also becoming increasingly weighty. Now, in addition to being the technical experts needed to maintain the existing IT infrastructure, a CIO must also be a specialist in business strategy, be able to understand the bigger business picture, have the ability to align people and processes with long-term business goals, and demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities.
