WhatsApp launches community-exclusive events feature for group chats

WhatsApp has started rolling out its highly anticipated events feature for group chats, expanding beyond its initial community-focused release last month. Initially announced as part of Communities, this feature is now available in regular group chats, confirmed GSM Arena.

According to GSM Arena, the feature has been spotted in WhatsApp for Android’s beta version 2.24.14.9, marking the start of its broader availability. The update includes a new “Event” icon in the paperclip menu within group chats, allowing users to easily create and manage events directly in their chat groups. Once an event is created, group members can view and respond to the invitation, while only the event creator can modify event details.

Notably, WhatsApp ensures all group events are protected by end-to-end encryption, maintaining user privacy and security. While a definitive timeline for the global rollout of the Events feature hasn’t been disclosed, users eager to try it out can join the beta program for early access.

In addition to the events feature, WhatsApp has introduced several other updates to its platform. Users can now experience larger group video calls, with the participant limit increased from eight to 32, making it easier for larger groups to connect virtually. This update is available on both mobile and desktop.

Moreover, WhatsApp is rolling out new features powered by Meta AI to enhance the user experience for individuals and businesses. AI-powered chat functions, previously in limited testing, are now available in a dozen countries. Users can interact with AI chatbots and create custom AI stickers.

Businesses on WhatsApp are also getting a boost with the introduction of Meta Verified, a program designed to help businesses showcase their legitimacy and build trust with customers.
